The Time Has Come...

From next Thursday (27/03/2008) Sideways Through Sound is very happy to announce an earlier broadcasting time slot.
The show will go to air from 10 PM AEST (22:00) for two hours and will of course remain a very good home to the usual gathering of late night strumming, droning and general psychedelic reverie.
Sideways Through Sound every Thursday from 22:00 on FM99.3

Lewis & Clarke - Blasts Of Holy Birth (La Societe Expeditionnaire)

The songs of Lewis & Clarke are medicinal, meditative and trance-inducing. They wind along lengthy lines of chamber folk, full of bows and bells, aphorisms and dreamy dreams. Both literally and figuratively, Blasts Of Holy Birth is about being born and re-born.
"A pure music experience that whispers half-remembered truths to the soul, as Lewis & Clarke easily soar above so called 'acid-folk/ freak folk' conventions by exhibiting amazing clarity and a sense of spaciousness in their songs... striking in its authenticity and ability to convey empathy and even inspiration. It is gentle and wild, an abundant feast of simple fare that nourishes the heart."
Lewis & Clarke's Blasts Of Holy Birth will be Sideways Through Sound's featured album on the show 20/03/2008

Sideways Through Sound is 'The Weaver'...
Vedan Kolod - Siberian Ethno Folk Music
The excellent Vedan Kolod and label Scythian Horn want to invite you to take a part in an international project. They are looking for bands working in folk, acoustic, pagan or ethno music styles for an upcoming compilation CD.
Scythian Horn have previously released a live Vedan Kolod DVD, a compilation CD of Siberian throat singing and most recently a book/DVD of traditional Slavic instruments. Although they are passionate about Siberian music they hope, with this first international project, to show to Russian and Siberian people new bands and styles from around the world.
If you're interested in being part of this project then get in touch with Daranya from Vedan Kolod. You can send a song (preferably unreleased) to:
D. V. Antipova, do vostrebovania, 127254, Moscow, Russian Federation
Or send your music in WAV or audio format plus some information about yourself (photos, biog etc) to:
If you are keen, better get onto it folks, offer closes 20/03/2008!!!

Dead Meadow vs Guitar Soli

What a great situation to be in!! Thee Sonic Assassin has once again found himslef in a situation spoilt for choice!! Still undecided, next weeks featured album is going to be one of these two:
Either Dead Meadow's new psyche-sludge monster, with extra added 60's garage hot sauce, OR, the labour of love collection that is Guitar Soli, which explores the private side of the solo guitar movement from 1966-1981.
Its a tough call, but if you cant wait until next weeks show to see who comes out on top, then follow these links...

And Straight Outta Yokahama

And also worth a mention this week is the incredible Ogawa Kaya. K very kindly sent Sideways through Sound a parcel this week and Thee Sonic Assassin was very pleasantly blown away by this young Japanese guitarists distinctly individual style.
Full of soul, spirit and completely unafraid to break down pre-conceptions built around blues/ folk music. Occasionally experimental, always atmospherically intimate, and he plays a mean, mean slide to boot!!
