Featured: The Sun Blindness - To Sydney! (self released)

Tor and Duncan met working the late shift in a Melbourne supermarket in late 2004. Sharing a love of psychedelic music, they began to play and write together in the early mornings. With two electric guitars, heavily used delay pedals The Sun Blindness were formed.
Under the influence of mushrooms they decided to record an album. Lacking funds or a label, but full of psychedelic enthusiasm, 'Like Pearly Clouds' was born... (see Sideways Through Sound 24th November 2008)
After years of wanting to get to Sydney to play for their dear friends in the North, we were recently very lucky to have The Sun Blindness do two shows, one to a packed house at The Hopetoun with a full band, the other a more intimate Saturday arvo affair at the wonderful Bravery Repetition & Noise record store on King Street.
Although the tour was meant to have been a promotional tool for 'Like Pearly Clouds' they decided such a momentus occasion needed a commemorative EP, rather aptly titled 'To Sydney!', whilst also show-casing a couple of tracks from their next album.
Sideways Through Sound will be playing a selection from the To Sydney! Tour CD on next weeks show 25th March 2009.

Featured: Arborea - House Of Sticks (Borne!)
House of Sticks is a verdant, personal collection of Arborea's singles, with new versions of tracks from their debut album Wayfaring Summer plus several new songs.
This, their third album, is a continuation of Arborea's musical journey, as Buck and Shanti conjure scenes of wilderness dwelling and the vibrant people who exist there. Partly recorded in a Depression Era hunting cabin in the hills of Western Maine, you can almost hear the creaking floorboards and smell the wood smoke in the cold night air. Other songs were recorded in the parlor of a 160-year-old cottage, resurrecting the bittersweet melancholy of those who have lived and loved there.
Shanti's voice remains hypnotically beautiful and, with her unique rhythmic, melodic banjo style and her harmonium, along with Buck's haunting slide guitar, they create an atmosphere of 'Paris, Texas' Americana meets exotic modal visions of the Far East, whilst they continue the experimental folk and folk rock tradition of the late 1960's and early '70's.
Arborea seem to stop time and exist forever in that perfect, solitary moment and Sideways Through Sound will be featuring House Of Sticks on next weeks show, 18th March 2009.

Featured: Spotlight on Northern Star Records
(or "Welcome to your new favourite label, Part 8 ")

Northern Star is the worlds premier record label and mp3 vendor dedicated to psychedelic, experimental, underground and independent sounds.
The label was launched in 2006 with Psychedelica Vol 1 , which featured Brian Jonestown Massacre, The Black Angels, The Telescopes, Electric Prunes, Silver Apples and many more. The mp3 shop soon followed to enable like-minded bands to sell their music to a dedicated audience.
Psychedelica Vol 2 followed a year later to critical acclaim, with the revolution really set to take hold with the onset of Psychedelica 3. Featuring over 2 hours of the most fuzzed up, blissed out psych in existence Psychedelica 3 is a heart-stopping, white knuckle rollercoaster ride from start to finish, show-casing an eclectic selection of the very best in contemporary psychedelia.
"New nuggets for the enlightened… breathtaking perfection” 4/5 Stars. UNCUT
Sideways Through Sound will be playing a mind expanding, head spinning, pupil dilating selection of sounds from all 3 compilations on next week's show...

Featured: Dollboy - A Beard Of Bees (Static Caravan)
Dollboy is Oliver Cherer, an English artist who makes quiet, reflective, semi-organic music; a hybrid of analog electronic sounds, innovative sound processing and percussive acoustic instrumentation.
'A Beard Of Bees' is a highly-polished horse brass of a record, that collectivley re-imagines a time of psychedelic pastoral whimsy, whilst jet-age morris dancers drink pints of Timothy Taylors with Kevin Ayers.
Creating post-post-industrial urban-folk, Dollboy has existed in one form or another since the first show at The Garage, London in 1999, where the iconic performance included a saw, a vinyl killer, Japanese poetry and live eating of pork pies...
Sideways Through Sound are very happy to welcome back show regular and favourite Dollboy and will be featuring A Beard Of Bees on next week's show, 4th March 2009.
