Sounds
Ok, usually at this point in the week Thee Sonic Assassin has waded through a knee deep mass of vinyl and cds, and got together next weeks playlist. But what with the advent of moving over to 2SER this week and a deluge of great sounds arriving in the post, any kind of plan, if indeed there was one at all, simply fell apart at the seams...
But just to let you know, over the next couple of weeks there will be brand new music from I Am Your Autopilot, Ass, Jack Rose, Twenty One Crows, The Nightjar, Luminous Craft, Men-An-Tol, Jordan Hull, The Dust Dive and loads more and, one of them will be our featured album next week...
The money's on I Am Your Autopilot but the lovely purple vinyl Ass LP is a serious contender - news will be up on the site later in the week...
So stay tuned folks!!!

who doesn't like looking at record sleeves!?!?

This is it brothers and sisters, the last show on FM99.3 is here tonight and, for everyone who has supported Sideways Through Sound over the last 61 shows this broadcast is dedicated to you. Without the support of the artists, the listeners and of course the 99.3 team, Sideways Through Sound would not be here, now facing a very exciting future.

The show starts at 22:30 Australian Eastern Standard Time, so if you're in Sydney it's 107.3 and for everywhere else you can stream the show at www.2ser.com/stream

Silver Summit - S/T (Language Of Stone)

Much like the mystical illustration found on their self-titled debut album, Silver Summit is a collision of heaven and earth, fire and water; both bewitching and beautiful. The Brooklyn-based group is a song-writing partnership between longtime friends and multi-instrumentalists, Sondra Sun-Odeon and David Shawn Bosler. Working with noted engineer-producer and folk songwriter Greg Weeks (Espers, Valerie Project) at his Philly studio Hexham Head, Silver Summit co-produced these dense and lysergic tunes with Weeks over two weeks in the late summer of 2007.
The varied and hard-to-peg songs meld such diverse influences as British-folk finger-style guitar (they give a dark and otherworldly spin on Bert Jansch's "Wishing Well"), Peking opera ("Awaken"), Roma/gypsy folk ("Fool's Love"), Turkish saz riffs ("Water's Edge"), metal and shoegaze atmospherics ("The Door"), and Middle-Eastern accents and rhythms: Weird and seemingly incoherent, it all coalesces into a singularly-envisioned whole.
After Thee Sonic Assassin was sent a 3 track cdr which got played to death on the show, the new disc had no contenders whatsoever to be the featured album on the first show for 2SER. Silver Summit, Sideways Through Sound loves you!!

Only two more shows on FM99.3
The hour is almost upon us brothers and sisters!! Tonight's show is the penultimate (I think that's the right word?!) Sideways Through Sound before the move to 2SER. The first show from our new home will be Monday 30th June, broadcasting on 107.3 FM, or available to stream at www.2ser.com/stream I hope you can all join me...

Thomas Denver Jonsson - The Lake Acts Like An Ocean (Kite)

Thomas Jonsson continues his indie-folk journey with this, his third album. After a writing and recording process lasting well over two years, The Lake Acts Like The Ocean combines the fragility of Neil Young's more introspective moments with a high dose of Swedish temperament.
The new album is Thomas' most original and complex to date, travelling between solo instrumentals and band orientated indie-rock, to dark folk tunes, quiet hymns and soulful Americana.
The Lake Acts Like An Ocean will be the featured album on Sideways Through Sound 26/06/08, which is also the last show on FM99.3 before we move to 107.3 and a slot on 2SER.

C Joynes - The Running Board (GPS)

It is without doubt that The Great Pop Supplement is one of Sideways Through Sound's favourite labels because of records like this. Not only are they packaged both beautifully and inventively but every release is of an astonishingly high quality.
The lastest arrival is from show favourite C Joynes whose album of home recorded instrumentals, original and traditional tunes, cover versions, improvised pieces and hill recordings are all brought together by the GPS under the neat sub-heading of Anglo-Naive and Contemporary Parlour Guitar.
And with 45's and LP's in the pipeline from the likes of MV &EE, Elephant Micah and Jack Rose, Jerusalem & The Starbaskets and Melodie Du Kronk, plus a triangular lathe cut Dreams Of Tall Buildings single and stuff from the Woodcraft Folk, James Blackshaw and lots more, it would be a good idea to keep an ear out on Sideways Through Sound over the next few months...
In the meantime Sideways Through Sound is honoured to have C Joynes 'The Running Board' as our featured album on next weeks show 19th June 2008

Invisible Bees - 1st (Anti-Guru)

a chance meeting in a haunted fruit cellar....
instruments were gathered and tuned to the november wind. recording continued until the snow melted and the infant sun exploded into a million burning eyes. invisible bees are a primitive psych-folk duo united in their aim to send time out of joint. the insect ritual is darkly hypnotic-droney-buzzy-with primitive saz-warm accordion swells, minimal guitar motifs, strummed violin, tolling bells, bowed metal and devotional vocals.
mr damian burgess and miss elin eriksen are both london-based human-types... D.B was born in manchester england and E.T.E in oslo norway. the northern boy found the native music useful for "making some kind of sense" and "passing the time", the nordic girl joined local black metal teens and got drunk on homemade beer.
With shared influences so dear to Thee Sonic Assassin's own heart: rainy Manchester England, Black Sabbath, Easy Rider, John Cage, Repo Man, Joy Division and Norway, the experimental, avant-folk sounds of Invisible Bees had to be our featured album on next week's Sideways Through Sound 12/05/2008

Live
